It is given that, father and son together complete a task in 15 days.

Therefore one day work of father and son together = 1/15

one day work of father and son is 3 times one day work of his son.

Let x be the number of days taken by the father to complete the task and y be the number of days taken by son

one day work of father = 1/x

one day work of son = 1/y

To find x and y

1/15 =3 *1/y

y = 3*15 = 45 days

1/x + 1/y = 1/15

1/x = 1/15 - 1/y = 1/15 - 1/45 = 3/45 - 1/45 = 2/45

x = 45/2 days = 22 1/2 days

Therefore Number of days taken by father to complete the task = 22 1/2 days and that of son = 45 days

shizuka49: we have to solve it by quadratic equations
