Answer:

During the water purification process, the water coming into the filtration tank contains impurities and suspended particles. Filtration tank which has three layers: fine sand layer on top, a layer of coarse sand in the middle and gravel on the bottom. In this process layers of sand and gravel act as filters. When water passes through these layers, even the smallest particles are removed. 1. Water from a river or lake is brought to water work through canals or long pipes where it is mixed with the required quantity of alum and soda lime solution. Substances react with each other to form aluminum hydroxide, jelly-like, viscous solids. 2. It is then poured into large settling tanks, where most of the suspended impurities settle in two or three days. 3. Clear water containing some suspended matter is passed through a sequence of boulder, gravel, coarse sand and fine sand. The filtered clean water is chlorinated and then sent to reservoirs for distribution in the city
