Answer :-

IUPAC name of H3C - CH = CH - CH2 - CH = CH - CH2 - CH3 is OCT - 2 , 5 - diene

Rules:

As there is double bond b/w carbon atoms, we will use -ene as suffix.

The position of double bond as a number should be written before it.

Then, Count the no. of carbons and name it according. Like 5 means pent.

Answer:

IUPAC Name:

  • Of the given hydrocarbon:

\rm{H_3C - CH = CH - CH2 - CH = CH - CH2 - CH_3}

Here the single lines represent single bonds and double bonds represent double bonds. The hydrocarbon where carbon-carbon are bonded with double bonds are alkenes

Rules:

  • As there is double bond b/w carbon atoms, we will use -ene as suffix.
  • The position of double bond as a number should be written before it.
  • Then, Count the no. of carbons and name it according. Like 5 means pent.

But....!

  • Here there is 2 double bonds. Hence,

Choose the side of the chain from where the double bond is nearer in terms of numbering.

We have:

  • No. of carbon atoms = 8 (Oct)
  • Numbering from left side.
  • Double bond at 2 and 5.

The name would be:

 \Large{ \boxed{ \sf{ \purple{Oct - 2,5 - diene}}}}
