Sandboy means a very happy and joyous person. After going to the ring o bell, grandfather came back to the house and he seemed very happy. Mrs. John Shorrock, a widow, used to live there. Grandfather wished to marry her as she would take care of him till he died. So, maybe that after spending some time he had liked her and was happy about that.
