there are two ways to report the words of a speaker ?
1) Direct speech. and. 2) Indirect speech


Direct speech : When we quote the exact words of the speaker , it is called 'Direct Speech'. Example : He days to me,"I'm your friend "

Indirect Speech : When we give the substance of his speech in our own words.
Example : He tells me that he is my friend .

Reported or Indirect Speech is used for reporting what anchor person had said . It usually involves changed in the following :

1. Pronouns. 2. Verb 3. Place / Time expressions ....

1) She said "They were going "
Answer : She said that they had been going ....

2) He said to me , "you are lucky "
Answer: He said that I were lucky ...

3) Teacher say,"The school will remain closed tomorrow. "
Answer : The teacher said that the school would remain closed the day after .

4) I said to show,"I am listening to you."
Answer : I told to sit that I was listening to him ....
