given : let x be age of mother and y be age of child

So... Five years ago.. Age of mother and child is x - 5 and y - 5...

x - 5 + y - 5 = 60
x + y - 10 = 60
x + y = 70. -- (1)

Five years from now... Age of mother will be x + 5 and y +5

x +5 - y - 5 = 30
x - y = 30. - --- (2)

Solve (1) (2)...........................
2 x =100
X = 50

Sub value of x in eqn 2
50 - y = 30
Y = 20

Therefore, age of mother is 50 years and age of child is 20 years respectively.

Hope this helps :)
Cheers!

Let the present ages of mother and her daughter be 'x' and 'y' respectively.

Age of mother 5 yrs ago = (x-5)yrs

Age of daughter 5 yrs ago = (y-5)yrs

As per 1st given condition,

(x-5)+(y-5)=60

x-5 + y-5 =60

x + y = 60 + 5 + 5

x + y = 70 •••••••••••(1)

Age of mother after 5yrs from now = (x+5)yrs

Age of daughter after 5yrs from now = (y+5)yrs

As per 2nd given condition,

(x+5) -(y+5) = 30

x+5 -y-5 = 30

x - y = 30 ••••••••••••••(2)

Adding Eq. (1) & (2) we get ,

2x = 100

x = 50

Substituting x = 50 in Eq.(1)

x + y = 70

50 + y = 70

y = 70 - 50

y = 20

Present age of mother is 50yrs

and that of daughter's is 20yrs
