Answer:

y = 9 and x = 4

Step-by-step explanation:

Taking \frac{1}{\sqrt{x} } and \frac{1}{\sqrt{y} } as a and b.

Equ 1,

2a + 3b = 2

4a + 6b = 4  (multiplying by 2)

and 4a - 9y = -1

By elimination method,

4a + 6b = 4

4a - 9b = -1

(-)    (+)   (+)

-----------------

    15b = 5

⇒ b = 1/3

\frac{1}{\sqrt{y} } = 1/ 3

⇒ √y = 3

y = 9

NOw putting value of y in equ (2) we have,

4a - \frac{9}{\sqrt{y} } = -1

4a - 3 = -1

4a = 2

a = 1/2

1/√x = 1/2

√x = 2

x = 4
