This poem by Nissim Ezekiel elaborates the night and action after a scorpion bit his mother. He gives multiple details about the scorpion that was hidden under the sack. Anyhow, when one reads just the title of this poem, s/he can interpret that the poem would e talking about a scorpion or its adventure in a night. However, the whole lyric establishes the theme of tension, superstition, and conversion of a rational man (father of the author) into a superstitious human. Not more than four lines illustrate about the scorpion, while the theme of pain and compassion among the people and family is clearly carried out in the whole poem. Thus, when one reads alone the title, it seems deceptive. However, the whole action or the complete poem is the result of the scorpion's sting; therefore, we must not forget that the title is justified but still remains deceptive for new readers.
