hypocotyl is the stem of a germinating seedling found below the cotyledons and above the root..it shows epigeal germination
epicotyl is the region of seedling stem above the stalks of the seed leaves of an embryo plant.it shows hypogeal germination

hypogeal means below ground and epigeal means above ground germination
