1]yes the rain drops do possesses energy, Due to its height above the surface of the earth, the raindrop possesses gravitational potential energy. This converted into kinetic energy as it accelerates towards the earth due to gravity.

2]If the monkey was calling home from a train, he might say “hon, I’m on the train.” He wouldn’t be physically be on top of the train. Most people just phrase riding a train as being “on” the train. If he said his location inside the train, he might say “I’m in the back of the train in the last car.” He would never say “I’m on the back of the train.”

So, it’s sort of like what are you doing? On the train. Where are you? Sitting in the train car or sitting in the train seat.

It’s the same with flying. If someone called to see if you made your flight, most people would say “I’m on the plane.” But if they asked where, people would say which seat they are in.

Some of this is just semantics. People sit on chairs, but sit in seats. Seats have arm rests, so you sitting in the seat. People sit on stools, never in them. But they also sit on sofas or couches, even though sofas and couches have arm rests. No one ever says they are sitting in the sofa.

What’s really different is with cars. People might say they are driving a car, they might say they are riding in the car, but they wouldn’t never say they are on the car (unless physically on top of the car.)

you can say that the monkey possesses potential energy.
