Given:

An infinite charged sheet.

To find:

Graph of Field intensity at O ?

Calculation:

First of all, let's find out the field intensity using GAUSS' LAW:

  • Consider a cylindrical Gaussian surface opening up on either side of the plane sheet.

  \displaystyle\oint \:  \vec{E}. \vec{ds} =  \dfrac{q_{enclosed} }{2   \epsilon_{0}  }

 \implies  \displaystyle\:  2 \times E \times ds =  \dfrac{ \sigma \times ds }{  \epsilon_{0}  }

 \implies  \displaystyle\:  2 \times E  =  \dfrac{ \sigma  }{  \epsilon_{0}  }

 \implies   E  =  \dfrac{ \sigma  }{2   \epsilon_{0}  }

  • So, field intensity is independent of distance and remains constant.

Hence, the graph will be a straight line parallel to Distance Axis. Option c) is correct ✔️
