A no. is 6 more than two times another number. The sum of the two numbers is 24. Find the no's

Let the no. be x and y 

x = 2y+ 6 ..........(1)

x + y = 24 

2y + 6 + y = 24

( from eq..1 , x = 2y+ 6)

3y= 24- 6

y = 18/3

•°•y = 6 


x = 24 - 6

•°•x = 18

Hence , First number - x = 6

Other number=2x+6
=2×6+6
=18
