Answer:

Original Money for 3kg = rs.120

So price decreased = 20% decrease

So decrease amount = 20  × 120 = 24

                                          100 (cancel everything possible )

So new price = 120 - 24 = Rs.96

Hope this helps :)

Question:

  • If the price of sugar is decreased by 20%, then the new price of 3kg sugar originally costing ₹120 will be?

Given:

  • Price of sugar is decreased by 20%
  • Price of 3kg sugar originally is ₹120.

To Find:

  • Cost of 3kg sugar after decrement = ?

Solution:

Decrement in the price of sugar = 20%

Cost of 3kg sugar originally = ₹120

Cost of 3kg sugar after decrement = ₹{120 - (20% of 120)}

After evaluating, we get:

= Rs.\left\{120\;-\Big(\dfrac{20}{100}\times120\Big)\right\}

= Rs.\left\{120\;-\;24\right\}

= Rs.\; 96

Extra Information:

  • Percentage is a number or ratio that can be expressed as a fraction of 100.
  • To convert a fraction into a percentage we multiply the fraction by 100.

       Eg -   \dfrac{3}{4}\longrightarrow\Big(\dfrac{3}{4}\times100\Big)\%=75\%

  • To convert a percentage into fraction, divide it by 100 and convert that fraction in the simplest form.

      Eg -   35\%\longrightarrow\dfrac{35}{100}\longrightarrow\dfrac{7}{20}

  • To convert a percentage as a ratio we have to first convert it as a fraction and then write it as a ratio.

       Eg -  19\%\longrightarrow\dfrac{19}{100}\longrightarrow19:100

  • To convert a ratio into percent we first have to convert it as a fraction and then multiply it by 100.

       Eg -   1:2\longrightarrow\dfrac{1}{2}\longrightarrow\Big(\dfrac{1}{2}\times100\Big)\%  \longrightarrow 50\%
