A leopard has attacked and killed a 9-year old
girl in the forest colony in Nagdev area in
Pauri on Tuesday evening. The incident
occurred at a stone’s throw from the victim’;s
residence in the forest colony.
The injured girl was taken to district hospital
and after stitches she was sent to women
hospital and then referred to Srinagar base
hospital, but on the way she died. In the
period of nine days, this is the second incident
of the leopard and killed two minors.
On the other hand Divisional Forest Officer
has not sent any letter to Chief Wild life
warden regarding to declare the leopard as
man eater and said that no one has seen the
leopard, so after the tracking and identification
of the big cat, the request will be made for its
declaration of man eater. As there are many
leopard moving around the district headquarter
Pauri and its adjoining village, keeping the
security of live of leopard, it can’t be shoot
out, because the wild life has protection under
the wild life conservation act.
On Tuesday evening when the girl Kanchan
Chauhan D/o Mangal Singh was out side of
the residence in Forest colony in Nagdev ,the
leopard attacked her and took her. Many
person saw the incident of the forest
colony.Chief Medical Superintendent District
Hospital Dr.K.K.Pant said that the injured girl
was brought to hospital, where after the
stitches of wounds, she was sent to lady
doctors and then referred to base hospital
Srikot at Srinagar Garhwal, but the girl died on
the way .Pauri Range officer Jaspal Singh said
that the blood was seen only 3 meters away
of the residence. The victim’s father with his
family was residing in the quarter of his elder
brother who was in the forest department and
expires few months before and were allowed
to remain in the quarter for six months as per
rule of government.
The conflict of man and big cat has created
terror among the people of the district
headquarter Pauri and adjoining villages but
the forest department and its officer has no
concern about the lives of human being.
The general opinion of the public is that the
wild animal should not be killed, but when
leopard killing the human being, it should be
shoot down to protect the human life. Three
minor were injured and two were killed by
leopard in a duration two months in Pauri and
people are coming from their houses with fear
and terror added one common man.
