Let us say that alpha =a and beta =b

Now it is given that (a+b)^2-ab=24

Here , a+b = - coefficient of x/coefficient of x^2
So, a+b= -5/2

ab=constant term/coefficient of x^2
So, ab =k/2

Substituting ab and a+b in (a+b)^2-ab=24:-

=(-5/2)^2-k/2=24
=25/4-k/2=24
=25-2k=96
=(-2k)=96-25
= (-k)=71/2
= (-k)=35.5
=k=(-35.5)
