1. What would happen if alveoli are blocked ?

Answer: The alveoli are the structural and functional unit of respiration  the exchange of gases takes place here and the the oxygen is sent to all tissue of our body and CO2 out of our body. If Alveoli are blocked then we would have problem in respiration as well as in the filtration of air.

2. Smoking affects the lungs. Explain how ?

Answer: Smoking inflames and irritates the lungs. Smoking also can destroy your lungs and lung tissue. This decreases the number of air spaces and blood vessels in the lungs, resulting in less oxygen to critical parts of your body.

3. What are trachea ?

Answer: The trachea, also called the windpipe, is a tube that carries air to and from the lungs. It connects the pharynx and larynx to the lungs.

4. How do unicellular organisms respire ?

Answer: Unicellular organisms respire by the process of diffusion. Diffusion is the process by which molecules from a high concentration region move to a low concentration region.

5. How do plants respire ?

Answer: Plants respire using the process of cellular respiration. This means that they use the nutrients they obtained from soil and turn them into energy. This energy is used to fuel all of their cellular activities.  The plants get energy through the process of respiration in which glucose food breaks down in the presence of oxygen to form carbon dioxide and water with the release of energy. This energy is used by the plant for carrying out its various life processes.

Answer:

  • When you exhale, the alveoli shrink, forcing carbon dioxide out of the body. When emphysema develops, the alveoli and lung tissue are destroyed. With this damage, the alveoli cannot support the bronchial tubes. The tubes collapse and cause an “obstruction” (a blockage), which traps air inside the lungs.

  • Smoking inflames and irritates the lungs. Even one or two cigarettes cause irritation and coughing. Smoking also can destroy your lungs and lung tissue. This decreases the number of air spaces and blood vessels in the lungs, resulting in less oxygen to critical parts of your body

  • The trachea serves as passage for air, moistens and warms it while it passes into the lungs, and protects the respiratory surface from an accumulation of foreign particles

  • Unicellular organisms do not breathe in the typical sense, but they respirate by allowing oxygen to enter the cell membrane through the process of diffusion. ... Instead of the actual process of breathing, oxygen simply enters in their bodies by simple diffusion. They don't have any breathing system

  • As with photosynthesis, plants get oxygen from the air through the stomata. Respiration takes place in the mitochondria of the cell in the presence of oxygen, which is called "aerobic respiration". ... This action could result in flower damage and poor plant growth. Roots need oxygen: As mentioned above, roots respire too!
