Answer: 9

Step-by-step explanation:

x² - 6x = 16

To make LHS a perfect square:

Take half the coefficient of 'x' :- -6/2 = -3

Now square this: (-3)² = 9

Add this to LHS [and RHS too]

x² - 6x + 9 = 16 + 9

(x - 3)² = 25

Now the LHS is a 'Perfect Square'. The term added was '9'.

{Concept used (a-b)² = a² - 2*a*b - b² ... a² = x² ; 2*a*b = -6x.. so 'b' = -6x/2 = -3}

May I know whether there is any error either in my approach or in the understanding of the question (pattern)
