Silk – there are four types silk produced in India.
a. Mulberry Silk – Mulberry silk is one of the most renowned and popular forms of Silk, particularly when it comes to textiles. Originated from the era of Indus Valley Civilization, it is one of the exquisite silk used in textiles.
b. Muga Silk - Muga silk is a variety of wild silk geographically tagged
to the state of Assam in India. The silk is known for its extreme durability and has a natural yellowish-golden tint
with a shimmering, glossy texture. It was previously reserved for the use of royalty.
c. Eri Silk - Eri silk is also known as endi or errandi in India. The woolly white silk is often referred to as the fabric of peace when it is processed without killing the silkworm.
d. Tussar Silk - Tussar silk is produced from larvae of several species of silkworms belonging to the moth genus, these silkworms live in the wild forest in trees.
Mulberry silk is a farm cultivated silk and other three silk is cultivated in the forest and it is also called wild silk.
For about 90% of silk sarees, mulberry silk is used, especially kanchipuram silk sarees and it is one of the costliest silk in the world compared to other available silk.
Today’s price per KG of silk yarn is about 4,500 - 5,000 INR.

There are four types of natural silk produced in India for commercial purposes. These are known as Mulberry silk, Tasar silk, Muga silk, and Eri silk. Among these four kinds, the mulberry silk contributes to more than 80% of the silk produced in the country.
