Mixtures are formed when two (or) more substances (or) elements combined with each other without change in chemical properties of the combined elements. The mixtures are classified into two types based on the combination they are:-

(i) Homogeneous mixture

(ii) Heterogeneous mixture

(i) Homogeneous mixture: The mixture in which the components of the mixture are uniformly distributed is called homogeneous mixture. Ex: Air, salt water.

(ii) Heterogeneous mixture: The mixture in which the components of the mixture are not uniformly distributed is called heterogeneous mixture. Ex: Sand in water
