Zn + H2SO4 ----> ZnSO4 + H2

Observations- 1) When dilute sulphuric acid is poured on zinc granules then zinc sulphate is formed along with the production of hydrogen gas.

2) We can test the presence of hydrogen by bringing a burning candle near the mouth of the test tube. We hear a pop sound on doing this. Only hydrogen gas burns with a pop sound. This confirms that the gas evolved is hydrogen.
