1x+1y=70......1

7x-7y=70
divide by 7
x-y=10 .....2
x+y=70

GIVEN :
Distance between two places : 70 km
Same direction meet = 7 hrs
Each other direction meet = 1 hr
TO FIND :
Speed of both cars = ?
SOLUTION :
We know that ,
Speed = Distance / Time
Let the speed of car A be 'x'
and car B be ' y'.
If the cars move in the same direction then the speed of cars will become ,
x-y = 70/7
x-y=10 ................(1)
If the cars move towards each other the speed of cars will become ,
x+y=70/1
x+y= 70 ................(2)
By elimination method .
Add equation 1 and 2
x + y = 70
x - y = 10
________
2x = 80
x = 80/2
x = 40km/hr
now substitute the value of x in equation 1
40 - y = 10
40 - 10 = y
30km/hr = y
hence
the speed of car a and car B are 40 km/hour and 30 km/hour respectively .
