QUESTION:

A force of 50 N acts on a body of mass 5 kg for 4 s then the impulse of force and acceleration of the body are

ANSWER:

  • Impulse = 200 Ns.

  • Acceleration = 10 m/s².

GIVEN:

  • A force of 50 N acts on a body of mass 5 kg for 4 s.

TO FIND:

  • Impulse.

  • Acceleration.

FORMULAE:

  • F = Ma

  • v = u + at

  • Impulse = m(v - u)

EXPLANATION:

F = Ma

F = 50 N

M = 5kg

50 = 5a

a = 10 m/s²

v = u + at

u = 0

a = 10 m/s²

t = 4 s

v = 0 + 10(4)

v = 40 m/s

Impulse = m(v - u)

Impulse = 5(40 - 0)

Impulse = 5(40)

Impulse = 200 Ns.

Hence Impulse = 200 Ns and acceleration = 10 m/s².

Given

A force of 50 N acts on a body of mass 5 kg for 4 sec.

  • F = 50 N
  • m = 5 kg
  • t = 4 s

To Find

If the impulse of the force and acceleration of the body are

a) 200 N-sec and 50 m/sec²

b) 200 N and 10 m/sec²

c) 100 N and 50 m/sec²

d) 100 N and 10 m/sec²

Solution

We know,

► Impulse, I = Ft

Putting the values :-

→ I = 50 × 4

→ I = 200 N-s

We also know,

► F = m × a

Putting the values :-

→ 50 = 5 × a

→ a = 50/5

→ a = 10 m/s²

Therefore, the answer is (b) 200 N-s and 10 m/s².
