EINSTEIN2243: hear the meaning of word manipulator is people who skillfully control anyone or anything. all the ladies were trying to force John in an uncomfortable situation.

The assembly of women were manipulating Lavinia into thinking that her husband was having an affair with a ghost named Helen. They used words like TRAITOR spelled out by Helen on the Ouija board to make it look like John was cheating on his wife Lavinia. The truth on the other hand is that Helen the ghost was trying to say that John wasn’t keeping his end of the promise he made to her.
