1. How many pieces of plywood, each 0.45 cm thick, are required to make a pile 2.43 m high ?

Solution:

The size of one piece of plywood = 0.45 cm

The total height of plywood = 2.43 m

= 2.43  100 = 243 cm

The number of plywood pieces required is \frac{243}{0.45} = 540 pieces

2. Each side of a polygon is 3.8cm in the length and it's perimeter is 22.8 cm. How many sides does the polygon have?

Solution:

Let the number of sides of the polygon be n.

Length of each side of the polygon = 3.8 cm

∴ Perimeter of the polygon = (3.8 × n) cm

But it is given that its perimeter is 22.8 cm.

∴ (3.8 × n) cm = 22.8 cm

⇒ n =(\frac{22.8}{3.8}) = \frac{228}{38} = 6

Hence, the given polygon has six sides.
