The structure of lungs in a human body is designed in a way to maximize the exchange of gases. Alvoli are present on the tips of every nerve ending which increases the surface area of the lungs and provides more exposure for the exchange of gases.  These alvoli are in millions of numbers. The exchange of gases and successful breathing process occurs mainly through them.
