Solution :-

Let the dividend be x

Now , in mathematical form

( - 12)¹ ÷ x = ( -4)¹

It can be written as

→ ( 1/- 12 ) ÷ x = - ¼

[ °.° a¹ = 1/a ]

→ - 1/12x = - ¼

→ 1/12x = 1/4

By cross - multiplying

→ 4 = 12x

→ x = 4 ÷ 12

[°.° A number multiplied with a variable and transposed to LHS or RHS it will divide the number at LHS or RHS ]

x = 1/3 or 3¹

Verification :-

Substituting the value of x in the given question.

→ ( - 12)⁻¹ ÷ x = ( - 4)⁻¹

→ -12⁻¹ ÷ x = 1/(-4)

→ - 12⁻¹ ÷ x = - ¼

Taking LHS & substituting the value of x

→ - ( 12⁻¹/3⁻¹ )

→ - [ ( 1/12 )/( 1/3 ) ]

→ - [ 3/12 ]

- ¼

Now , comparing with RHS

LHS = RHS

Hence , verified !
