draw a right triangle ABC and right angle at c

suppose ,

AB be ladder=20 m

and ,

BC be distance between foot of wall and foot of ladder = 16m

we find AC by pythagoras therom

(AC)2=(AB)2- (BC)2

PUT value

(AC)2=(20)2 - (16)2

(AC)2= 400 - 256

(AC)2= 144

AC = 12m
