Angles in the shape of a Z are called alternate angles and they are equal.

Co- interior angles add up to 180 degrees.

Here AB, BC and CD form a clear Z shape.

∠ABC= ∠BCD

⇒ 70° = x + y → (1)

Now, EF ║ CD.

Therefore, ∠FEC and ∠DCE are co- interior angles.

⇒ 150° + y = 180°

⇒ y = 30°

Therefore, substituting the value of 'y' in (1),

we get x = 70°- 30°= 40°
