To neutralize soil acidity (pH 4 to 5), farmers can apply lime and bring the soli to near neutral (pH 6–7). Lime is a bit expensive for poor farmers. They can then apply plant ash or charcoal (biochar) to neutralize soil acidity in a slow manner.
