Given the measurements

7.9, 7.95, 8.15

Find the mean value of the measurement

(7.9 + 7.95 + 8.15)/3

= 24/3

= 8

Now to find absolute error, subtract the obtained mean value with the absolute values, and take modulus.

Here, a denotes the error

a1 = |8 - 7.9| = 0.1

a2 = |8 - 7.95| = 0.05

a3 = |8 - 8.15| = 0.15

Now to find average absolute error, take the mean values of a1, a2 and a3

→ (0.1 + 0.05 + 0.15)/3

→ 0.3/3

→ 0.1

Hence average absolute error is 0.1

Now to find relative error, divide absolute error by actual measurement

→ Relative error = 0.1/8

To find percentage error, multiply it by 100

→ 0.1/8 × 100

= 10/8

= 5/4

= 1.25%
