So by Pythagoras theorem , change in velocity is given by the hypotenuse As :
__________
|Δv| = √( v1^2) +(v2^2)
__________
|Δv| = √( 20^2) + (20^2)

= 20√2 m/s .

The direction is south -west ... hope you understand...plz mark brain list if u get answer

imstranger1234: how will direction come south west??
raghavarora116pd9yd7: from vectos addition we will also determine the resultant direction
imstranger1234: but how??
imstranger1234: u can write it on page and share as attachment
raghavarora116pd9yd7: now you will understand properly..

Initial velocity, u = 20 m/s due north = 20j m/s

Final velocity, v = 20 m/s due west = -20i m/s

Change in velocity = v - u =( -20i - 20j) m/s

Magnitude = |-20i - 20j| = √{(-20)^2 - (-20)^2} = √800 = 20√2 m/s

Direction is south west.

Answer is D.
