Explanation

Given: ABC is a triangle, right angled at C

AB = 17 cm

AC = 8 cm

By applying Pythagoras theorem:

AB² = BC² + AC²

=> BC² = AB² - AC²

=> BC² = (17)² - (8)²

=> BC² = 289 - 64

=> BC² = 225

=> BC = √225

=> BC = 15 cm
