Let the age of the father is X(present)

and the age of the sin is Y(present)

so , X-5+Y-5 =50

or, X+Y-10= 50

or, X+Y = 60

or, X=60-Y

now , X/Y=4/1

or , X=4Y

then , we have ,

X=60-Y

or , 4Y =60-Y

or , 5Y =60

or, Y =12

so, son's age is 12 yrs .then the age of the father is ,X =60+Y =60-12=48years...
