Marginalisation is a social phenomenon by which a particular group or class of people is accorded less importance and is pushed to the margin or in other words, is segregated from the society.

amrata78: This is very short
HimanshuKumar999: Take some more. - They are not accepted by the society at large. They are denied access to their basic rights and resources like education and so get little opportunities for development available to the rest of the society. They are denied opportunities to mingle with the rest of the society. Social exclusion and segregation by society together with illiteracy and poverty makes them quite powerless.

Marginalised people are those groups of the society which remained ignored and isolated in the past due to various social and economic causes. Their marginalisation can be because they belong to a lower caste, speak a different language, follow different customs and traditions or belong to a different religious group from the majority of people living in the society. In India the main among these groups are :-
(1) the scheduled castes, (2) the scheduled tribes, (3) other backward classes and (4) minorities.
