Equation ( i ), ax + by = 9

Here, x = 3, y = - 1

( 3 )a + ( - 1)b = 9

3a - b = 9 --> 1.

Similarly, equation ( ii ), bx + ay = 5

3b - a = 5 --> 2.

Multiplying equation 2 by ( 3 ),

9b - 3a = 15

Adding both equations,

3a - b + 9b - 3a = 9 + 15

8b = 24

b = 24/8 = 3

Putting value of b in equation ( 1 ),

3a - b = 9

3a - 3 = 9

3a = 9 + 3 = 12

a = 12/3 = 4

a = 4

 \fbox{a\: =\: 4\:and\:b\:=\:3}
