yes because lemon and tamarind are strong acids. The surface of copper turns greenish and strong acids have h+ ions which are high reactive than copper.So when lemon containing h+ions is rubbed upon greenish copper surface displaces co2 and oh from compound CuCO3.Cu(OH)2 [the greenish compound] and pure copper left upon the surface,thereby cleaning the copper vessel.
