Let total people = x

Given females =

$\frac{6}{8} \: of \: the \: total \: people$

$= \frac{6x}{8} = \frac{3x}{4}$

So males are

$x - \frac{3x}{4} = \frac{x}{4}$

Difference between females and males

$= \frac{3x}{4} - \frac{x}{4} \\ = \frac{2x}{4} \\ = \frac{x}{2}$

According to question

$\frac{x}{2} = 36 \\ = > x = 36 \times 2 = 72$

So total number of people is 72.

Males =

$\frac{x}{4} = \frac{72}{4} = 18$

Females = 72-18 = 54
