First of all, read the complete sentence and try to understand it completely. Sometimes we can detect an error in the first instance.

Always try to make subject verb agreement. A singular noun takes plural verb and vice-versa.

For example:

Reeta want to play with her friends.(Incorrect)

Reeta wants to play with her friends.(Correct)

Even after taking a glance over the complete sentence, if you do not detect an error then read individual part and try to find out. It is rather easy to find errors by taking individual parts than the complete sentence.

For example:

He were too tired that / he could not cross / the street.

In the above question take individual part and also try to make subject verb agreement. ‘He’ is singular pronoun and it will take singular verb i.e. ’was’ at the place of ‘were’.

Check out the spellings, because sometimes error is in spellings.

Krishna ran to the / nearing grocerie / store to buy biscuits. (Incorrect)

Spellings of ‘grocerie’ are incorrect and it will be replaced with ‘grocery’.

‘Though’ is always followed by ‘Yet’ not by ‘But’.

For example:

Though he is poor but he is honest. (Incorrect)

Though he is poor, yet he is honest. (Correct)

One sentence only uses one conjunction at a time. Check out errors of conjunctions in the sentence. For example we can’t use ‘as’ and ‘so’ in the same sentence.

‘Much’ is used for Uncountable nouns and ‘Many’ with countable nouns.

For example:

‘Much’ is used with milk as it is uncountable noun and ‘many’ with all the countable nouns like books, chairs etc.

‘Which’ is used to address non-living beings and ‘Whose’ is used to address living things. For example:

Which car is standing there? (Incorrect)

Whose car is standing there? (Correct)

Some nouns that starts with ‘h’ like ‘Honour’, ‘Honesty’ etc. take ‘an’ before them because ‘h’ is considered silent in these words. So, always remember to use article ‘an’ before them.

For example:

Kishan is a honest man. (Incorrect)

Kishan is an honest man (Correct)

Since ‘Unless’ already expresses negative sense, ‘Not’ is never used with ‘Unless’,

For example:

Unless you do not work hard, you will not get good marks in examination.(Incorrect)

Unless you work hard, you will not get good marks in examination. (Correct)

‘One of’ is always followed by plural noun. Let us take an example to understand it.

He is one of the intelligent student of this college. (Incorrect)

He is one of the intelligent students of this college. (Correct)
