plz explain d meaning of this sentence: 'Economic exploitation and the drain of India's wealth were the hallmarks of British rule in India'.

britishers made indian to fight between themselves for money and created economic exploitation.. they made their own rates of paying taxes and vats and compell the indian to give their money to them, thus british government slowly drained the money which indians had and this was their hall mark and huge achievement

as a result of industrial revolution Britishers ha to find source of cheap raw material and a garunteed source of markets, thus economic imperialism began. Initally they came to India for trade purposes but saw that Indians fought among themselves and taking advantage started acquiring power and finally colonizing India.

Actually there is a very good video on YouTube on debate at Oxford Union on "Britain does owe reparations" by Sashi Tharoor. I definitely recommend watching it.
