We are provided with the data of heights of students of a class below;

    Height (in cm)            No. of students (f)     Cumulative Frequency (cf)

          154                                      9                                       20

          160                                      8                                       28

          161                                       3                                      31

                                             ∑f =   31    

Now, First we calculate \frac{N}{2}  ,where N = ∑f ,i.e. \frac{31}{2} = 15.5 .

Here, the cumulative frequency(cf) just greater than or equal to 15.5 is 20.  

Therefore, height of student corresponding to cf 20 is 154.

Hence median height of students is 154 cm.
