Compounds that have the same molecular formula but different chemical structures arecalled isomers. Remember isomerism is a property between a pair (or more) of molecules, i.e. a molecule is an isomer of another molecule. A similar relationship is that of brother or sister... you can only be a brother or sister to someone else.

Depending on the nature of the difference between the structures, it is possible to classify isomers into various sub-types

Isomers are compounds with the same molecular formulae but that are structurally different in some way. It is important to be able to recognise isomers because they can have different chemical, physical properties and biological properties.

Hello Friend !

Some explanation related to Isomers is given below. Please see to it !

Compounds having same molecular formula but having difference in their physical and chemical properties are Isomers of each other.

For example, Propane and Butane are not isomers because their molecular formula is different.

The phenomena of exhibiting isomers is called Isomerism.

Isomers
can be classified as :

1) Structural isomers :-

     This includes following types :-

     ⇒ Chain isomers

     ⇒ Position isomers

     ⇒ Tautomers

     ⇒ Functional isomers

     ⇒ Metamers

     ⇒ Ring chain isomers

2) Stereo isomers :-

     This includes following types :-

⇒ Geometrical isomers :- It is of two types

           → Cis isomers
           → Trans isomers

     ⇒ Optical isomers

For example, n-Butane and 2-Methylpropane are chain isomers.

Hope this helps !
