Upward movement of water and minerals in the xylem depends upon transpiration. So, it's always unidirectional. Phloem transport depends on source - sink relationship. Therefore, the movement of phloem sap is bi directional.

Note:  phloem sap is bi directional and not Multidirectional.

Answer:

Explanation:as we know xylem transports water and minerals from the roots so the movement of materials is upwards and the pressure is created due to transpiration so that the materials can travel upwards . So to ensure that the materials do not flow down again the movement in xylem is unidirectional .

There is no such need in the case of phloem so the movement is bidirectional
