Here is your answer..

ANSWER:

1. Plaster of Paris (POP) should be stored in a moisture-proof container because Plaster of Paris, a powdery mass, absorbs water (moisture) to form a hard solid known as gypsum.

2. A neutralization reaction is when an acid and a base react to form water and salt and involves the combination of hydrogen ions and hydroxyl ions to generate water. The neutralization of a strong acid and strong base has a pH equal to 7.

Example – 1: When Sodium hydroxide is added to hydrochloric acid. Sodium chloride and water are formed.

NaOH+HCl⟶NaCl+H

2

O

Example - 2: Milk of magnesia, which is a base, is given as antacid in the case of indigestion, to neutralize the more acid produced in the stomach.

Mg(OH)

2

+2HCl⟶MgCl

2

+2H

2

O

3.Sodium carbonate (washing soda) is used in glass, soap and paper industries.

It is used for removing permanent hardness of water.

It is used in the manufacture of borax, ii) Uses of baking Soda : ...

It is also used in soda - acid fire extinguishers. 3)It acts as mild antiseptic.

4. As this milk is slightly more alkaline than other, therefore, acid produced to set into curd will be neutralized by baking soda added by milkman. Hence, this milk takes a longer time to set as curd.

5. The acidic behaviour of acid is due to the presence of hydrogen ions. The acids will not show its acidic behaviour in the absence of water, this is because acids do not dissociate to produce H+(aq) ions in the absence of water.

6. Distilled water is a pure type of water which does not contain any ions in it. ... These gases dissolve in water to form some kind of acids like carbonic acids which dissociates to give ions. Thus rainwater is conducting electricity while distilled water is not conducting electricity.

7. Curd and sour substances should not kept in copper and brass vessels because they contain acid which can react with metals and form salts

8. Calcium Hypochlorite is an inorganic chemical compound with chemical formula CaOCl2. They are also called calcium oxychloride and the common name of CaOCl2 is bleching or chlorine powder.

9. Washing soda(Na2CO3. 10H2O) is used for softening hard water.

10. Baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), is a chemical that can undergo a decomposition reaction when heated. At temperatures above 176 degrees Fahrenheit (80 degrees Celsius), sodium bicarbonate starts to break down into three compounds, forming sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), water (H2O) and carbon dioxide

11. It is used for bleaching cotton, linen in textile industries, for bleaching washed clothes in laundry. (ii) It is used as oxidizing agent in many chemical industries. (iii) It is used for disinfecting drinking water to make water free from micro-organisms.

12. mostly bases are used as cleaners domestically and it is used in neutralizing the effect of acidity, acids ae used in neutralizing bases and used in batteries ,salts are used in paper making mainly.

I hope this helps you

7) Curd and sour substances contain acids. Acids react with metals to produce salt and hydrogen gas. So, if such substances are kept in copper container, the acid will react and the container will be corroded.

8) Calcium hypochlorite

Calcium hypochlorite is an inorganic compound with formula Ca(ClO)2. It is the main active ingredient of commercial products called bleaching powder, chlorine powder, or chlorinated lime, used for water treatment and as a bleaching agent.

9) Water softening is achieved either by adding chemicals that form insoluble precipitates or by ion exchange. On a small scale, chemicals used for softening include ammonia, borax, calcium hydroxide (slaked lime), or trisodium phosphate, usually in conjunction with sodium carbonate (soda ash).

10) Baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), is a chemical that can undergo a decomposition reaction when heated. At temperatures above 176 degrees Fahrenheit (80 degrees Celsius), sodium bicarbonate starts to break down into three compounds, forming sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2).
