Answer:

a) Antarctica is often termed the white continent as the entire surface of the landmass is covered in thick layers of snow and ice sheets.

b)(i) 1 Dec 1959

(ii) East Antarctica, under Denman Glacier. This ice-filled canyon reaches 3.5km (11,500ft) below sea level.

c) It is situated a way from all other inhabited landmasses, isolating it. It is also the coldest and driest place on Earth. The miles-thick ice sheet at the Pole sits at an altitude of almost 10,000 feet, which feels more like 12,000 feet because of the low air pressure and arid polar atmosphere, I.e. the temperature and pressure make it difficult for humans to breathe and survive for long.

d) The main characteristics of Antarctica's climatic conditions are:

Dramatic seasons

Harsh temperatures and

Impressive winds
