What did I do wrong
we have 3 cubes of 4cm ok then joined the cubes to make a cuboid then l=12 ,B=4 ,H=4. now, surface area of cuboid=2(lb+bh+hl)= 2(12×4+4×4+4×12)= 2(48+16+48)=2×112=224cm^2

Length of each side of cube=4cm
If 3 cubes are joined then it's length will become 4+4+4=12cm
But breadth and height will remain same.
So breadth=height=4cm
Surface area of cuboid=2(lb+bh+hl)
=2[(12×4)+(4×4)+(4×12)]
=2(48+16+48)
=2(112)
=224cm.
