Acute implies to any condition that is sudden in onset and hasn't been there for longer period. For ex. severe hemorrhage in accidents, sudden attack of asthma (remember though, asthma is chronic too, which infact causes these acute attacks) or anything that develops over shorter duration of time.

On the other hand, chronic refers to the condition which develops over time. Infact, it could be due to repetitive acute attacks that chronic stage unflods ultimately (so chronic and acute are interconnected, as stated earlier). For ex. Repetitive acute attacks of UTI produce chronic complications in long run.

hope it helps ^-^
