Answer:

Kavita has \frac{7}{9} cups of sugar .....

(a)Cups of sugar used in recipe = \frac{1}{2}

Cups of sugar used in  another = \frac{1}{4}

Making denominator same = LCM of 2,4 = 4

\frac{1*2}{2*2} = \frac{2}{4} & \frac{1*1}{4*1} = \frac{1}{4}

Adding them We get = \frac{2+1}{4}= \frac{3}{4} Answer

(b) Total sugar = \frac{7}{9}

Used sugar = \frac{3}{4}

Left sugar = ??

Lcm of 9 and 4 = 36..

\frac{7*9}{4*9} = \frac{63}{36}

\frac{3*9}{4*9}=\frac{27}{36}

\frac{63-27}{36} = \frac{36}{36}= 1 cup

Hence , 1 cup sugar is left...
