infiltration is seeping of water down from top soil. One of the factor affecting rate of infilteration is area available for infilteration.
1) concrete sidewalls will cover lesser area but will affect the infilteration as the area covered by the wall will be concrete and it will not allow water to seep from it.
on ther hand, gardens and parks have open area. plants and flowers growing on it so it will give area for water to seep in.
