Helen Keller was born on 27th June,1880 in Tuscumbia,Albama. Her father was Arthur H Keller who was a former officer in the Confederate army. He also was good in hunting and loved to grow strawberries and watermelon in his big garden. Her mother was Kate Adams Keller who was many years younger than his husband as she was his second wife. There was a ritual in South to build a small house to be used on occasions and such a house was built by Helen's father. He shifted there after his marriage to Helen's mother. Helen's old fashioned garden was the paradise of his childhood. It was called the 'Ivy Green' as the house and outskirts was covered with beautiful ivy flowers. Her companion in childhood were Martha Washington, the daughter of their cook and Belle,a lazy dog. Helen was a very naughty child and started walking and talking at a very tender age. But her happiness didn't last long. It was a day in the dull month of February on which Helen fell ill. The doctor said that it was an acute case of congestion of stomach and brain. Doctor's said that she won't live but this mysterious illness went itself suddenly but took with it her sight and hearing power. It was a nightmare for Helen that the world for her will be silent and dark. But soon she learnt the sign language. A shake of her head means yes and a nod means no,a pull means come and a push meant go. But soon she found that not she was different from others. Others didn't used signs to communicate but their lips. This irritated her and frustrated Helen would start kicking and screaming until she was exhausted.
