Explanation:

it is because of the excited molecules

when the food is hot i.e. when the food molecules got the heat they starts vibrating !!

and they got excited and get into gaseous state and as we know the molecules of gases has variable volume ... and get transferred at long distances too

but ,

the cold food didn't get heat and the molecules are at the same place only !!

so, we get the smell of hot food earlier then the cold food
